President’s Message
We hope that everyone has enjoyed the year as much as we have. We also hope everyone has gotten as much out of the year, too. It’s been very busy, but we both feel we have grown as quilters.
Our final wish would be that the members treat the new officers as well as they did us. Please volunteer when you’re asked to help out

Outgoing Newsletter Editor Wishes She Could Come to the Luncheon, But Can't. So A Print Good-bye Will Have To Do.When Pat Alfredson asked me to be newsletter editor, knowing I was leaving, we both took a jump off an unknown cliff. I was happy to repay the debt I owed Mt. Vernon, and was also happy to keep my new friends (whose going-away quilt hangs in my study out here in California).
While the email correspondence seemed easy enough, I had recently started up a blog, and wondered if it would work for our chapter. With Pat's okay, together we all began a little history for the Quilter's Unlimited chapter in Mt. Vernon. From this end of things, I think it has been a success, and I have had a great time finding interesting images to match Mt. Vernon's news. I hope you all feel the same, for without your contributions, corrections, additions and enthusiasm for a new experience, it might have all withered to nothing. With Beverly at the helm now, I know it will continue to be a dynamic place to record Mt. Vernon's news and needs. Thanks to you all, and keep in touch!

Quilt ShowThis weekend is Quilter's Unlimited Quilt Show at the Dulles Expo Center. It runs from June 1st to 3rd, however classes begin Thursday, May 31st.
Pat Alfredson thanks everyone who volunteered for the demonstration area: Kay Brill, Bev Krysa, Marge Barondes, Anne Poulin, Helen Lineham, Cathy Hanratty, Mary Kelleher, Gigi Corbin, Joyce Nicholas, Trish Hogan, Carol Conahan, Libby Dudley, Kathy Edwards, Margaret Chandler and her mom, Peggy Hodge, and Dotty Eisenhour. A special thanks to Tammy Mannarino for helping with setup.
Hobbs Proof of Purchase Labels Needed
We need to collect 5 Hobbs proof of purchase labels to use to get Hobbs batting from the company for the use of the Cumberland prisoners’ Stitchin’ Time guild. If you have any Hobbs, please cut the proof of purchase off and bring it to the luncheon or a bee this summer to give to Pat Alfredson.
Alzheimer’s Art Quilt InitiativeKathy Edwards has been collecting MV QU member’s Alzheimer’s Quilts. Please bring your Art Quilts (no larger than 9” X 12”) to the our final meetings on June 5th, so she can send them off. Be sure you have the proper hanger and labels along with a one-page registration form. You can get this information from Kathy or better yet, go to the web page and print it yourself. (http://www.amisimms.com/makemini.html).
Reminder: If you registered your quilt for the Big QU Quilt Show, Kathy will collect them AFTER THE QUILT SHOW, but you can still get the paperwork done now. Kathy will be sending these mini-quilts to Ami Sims in Flint, Michigan, the second week of June. Money raised is used to support the cost of research to find a cure for Alzheimer’s disease. Please contact Kathy if you have any questions.
Quilt Pink News
Our second of two quilts sold this past month on the Quilt Pink Auction. Our participation was spearheaded by Rhonda Adams, assisted by Joyce and all of the members of the Mt. Vernon Chapter. We had a stellar first outing, with both our quilts being selected for inclusion in their publications concerning this event, with one of our quilts chosen for the cover. The story of the first quilt is written in this email from the purchaser:
It is a beautiful quilt and I love the theme. I have inherited a number of quilts made by my grandmother and I have a couple of friends who are into quilting -- one who has hooked me on going to some quilt shows and exhibitions here in Columbus. It is amazing art and uniquely women-made art form -- two areas I'm passionate about. Oh, add one more passion on to this - I'm an e-bay shopper, too. In fact, I've placed a bid on the quilt in hopes of adding it to my collection. I like the idea of its connection to Jean [her mother], Jackie [Rhonda's mother-in-law], the Quilt Pink quilt event (what a wonderful concept, too), and supporting the Susan G Komen Foundation.
My family and I will again run the Race for the Cure on May 18th - a 5K I've been running for years and now Greg and Robyn, my older daughter are hooked and each has recruited friends to run with us. Even my younger daughter, Sydney (Jackie's favorite, I think) will walk/run.
[This quilt] brings together so many interests of mine and seems a good way to mark my years of running the Race and my growing collection of art.
Thanks to Rhonda for motivating us and thanks again to all who contributed!
