Summer Travel Challege

Summer's here and in between all that you plan to do (clean out the quilt room--see tips below, garden, nap, and finish those UFOs) take time to send the newsletter editor (mvqu.news@gmail.com) a photo of quilt shop you find on your travels. I'll post them as I receive them--write up a bit about it as well, so if they are within driving distance, we can go and visit them.

I found this one in Lyon, France. It's named "atelier des ABCDaires." It's on the ground floor of a marvelous old building with lots of ornamentation. The proprietor, Ms. Maurin, spoke great English and said she'd been in business for almost twenty years. Her shop holds lots of great samples (called "models" over there) and she stocks American Civil War reproduction fabrics, plus a line or two of fun Moda fabrics. The classroom is on the floor above her retail operations, visible in the large windows.

And on the way home, I got the VIP--no make that the VP (Vice-Presidential)--treatment from Rhonda! She worked the flight home from Geneva, and we had a great visit at 33,000 feet.

Beverly visited the Happy Zombie blog and found a nifty way to fold fabric, if you decide to clean up the sewing room this summer. Click on this link to be taken there. I was also impressed with the long list of links on the right side (scroll down) to explore.

Pat Alfredson with her President's quilt made by Rhonda Adams and Joyce Keating with fabric donated by quild members.

Mary Mazzuchi's President's quilt from the guild is the same as Pat's except that it is made all with pink fabrics with one blue square.

Margaret Chandler's mom with the quilt Margaret made for her parents' 50th anniversary. They celebrated the monumental event and two months later her father passed away. Family signatures are all over the quilt.

Marianne Urban with a quilt she made for her son who asked if there was any fabric available that was not flowers.

Carolyn Conahan with a quilt top she won (made by Joyce Keating) and at another event she won the prize to have it machine quilted!

Ann Marlin's flowered quilt.

Jim Melton bought this top for $10!

Ro Coller's Crayola Challenge was made by figuring out how to do it when she saw one just like it in a show.
