Presidents’ Message

“School bells ring and quilters sing it’s back to Hollin Hall again.” (can you name that jingle?)

And what an exciting year it will be. For starters, take a look at our calendar below and save the dates now…you won’t want to miss any of the wonderful programs Ellen Patton has lined up for us. Thanks to Gail Franchi’s efforts, we will also enjoy a bus trip on September 17th to “The Pennsylvania National Quilt Extravaganza”, where we will not only see a wonderful quilt show but also have the opportunity to spend more time with our quilting friends on our ride up and back.

Barbara Tucker, Ro Coller and many “busy bees” have been working on items to make our Annual Fund Raiser on November 10th one of the biggest and best ever! We will be collecting your items for sale at the September meetings.

All of our Committee chair spots have been filled except for a Quilt Collector for the Quilters Unlimited show being held on June 4th – 6th at Dulles Expo C enter. If you haven’t already signed up to be a member of one of our committees listed below, please see the chair and offer your services.

This year our new Community Service committee will help us track and organize our giving efforts. Besides bringing smiles to the recipient’s faces the quilts that we donate also help us to keep our volunteer status with Fairfax County at Hollin Hall. If you donate a quilt on your own to an organization, please be sure to send a note to Lynne Fishburn or e-mail her at lfishburn@hotmail.com so that at year’s end we will have a tally of donated quilts to share with big QU and also to Fairfax County.

We have a big surprise for members at our first meeting, hope to see you all there on September 8th.

Smiles,

Bert Garino

PS: Although our meeting starts at 12:30, please plan on coming to the meeting 15 minutes early or staying after for 15 minutes to assist with the setting up and take down of the chairs and tables. Many hands make light work – but then you already knew that.

“Fabrics, Fun, and the First Ladies” Lecture with Judy Gunter

September 22, 2009—12:30pm

Join us for a light hearted visit with the First Ladies of the White House. Not everything in the White House revolved around politics; there were opportunities for frivolity, fun, and fashions as well. Hear about many of the First Ladies, their times, follies, and memorable personalities. See the quilts, fabrics, linens, and textiles that were popular during the time they lived in Washington, DC.
