October 2021 Show & Tell

Thanks once again to Ginny Mayes for taking these pictures!

Veronica Abrams showed this beautiful peacock quilt.

Veronica also had a number of embroidered  Christmas ornaments to show.

Kathy Z had a number of quilts to show. The first two are strippie quilts for charity.

This is another of Kathy Z's quilts.

This one is also Kathy Z's.

This is the front and back of Kathy Z's wine themed quilt.

The next three quilts were done by Mary Downey.

This one was sewed from flannel scraps from the baby quilts that Mary Baldwin makes and donates.

This yellow and grey quilt was made from baby crib bumper pads.

This unquilted top is also made from a baby crib bumper featuring animals.

Ginny Mayes showed three quilts.

This is a Drunken Nine-Patch that Ginny  showed and donated today.

Someone in MVQU had sewn this quilt into a top
 — the fabrics all are music notes — and Ginny finished it

Ginny made this second strippie. Both went to Mary Mazzuchi for charity.

Show & Tell from Business Meeting   Thanks once again to Ginny Mayes for the great pictures.

Barbara Zygiel -- tiny dresses

Carol Allen showed a quilt, some placemats and a pillow that she made from her friend’s late husband's Japanese robes.

Ginny Mayes -- "This was made from leftovers from Strippie kits."

Ginny Mayes -- "This is a vintage quilt top Lynn Miller donated. I quilted it in a Baptist Fan  pattern, using fabric for backing and binding that Mary Mazzuchi provided."

Ginny Mayes -- "My mom's eldest sister turns 90 this week.  Her next eldest sister turned 88 a few weeks ago.  It is the kind of family where everyone gets teased.  Birthday cards are viciously funny.  My mom thought it would be funny if I made fidget quilts for the two sisters.  Both of them still live in their own homes and cook and clean for large multi-generational families.  The one who turned 90 no longer drives, but that is more related to her polio injuries than to her age.  Although all of us Sigler women joke about losing our memories and minds, no one actually has dementia.

At first the sisters laughed about their fidget quilts, especially when my mom explained what they were and that they usually went to nursing home patients.  It was a great joke, as it was meant to be.  But my mom said that throughout the day, she would catch one of the sisters examining her quilt to see all of the moving parts and different activities, and she would see the sisters playing with their quilts or smoothing them down with their hands.  So even if they are not in need of fidget quilts for dementia reasons, they may actually be getting some use out of them!  One sister said that she was going to leave hers on display on her sofa."

JoAn Stout’s quilt made during our Covid lockdown period uses lots of beautiful embroidery.

Mary Mazzuchi finished up the little Sunbonnet Sues that had been left on the free table
