Rhonda Adams and Beth Smith revealed several quilt tops to be sold at this year’s auction on November 10th. The pieced and appliqued Tree Farm and Snowman blocks were donated by MVQU members. The four tops are shown below.
“Winter Wilderness” was made for Angie Miller’s nephew, who loves to hunt and snow ski. She machine quilted snowflakes over the all Batik fabrics.
Gigi Corbin’s niece, who lives in Germany, is the lucky recipient of this “Hot Pink” pillow.
Gigi also made a lively “Music Quilt” for the hostess in Germany who made her stay special. Ellen Patton machine quilted it.
“Art Nouveau,” hand quilted by Pat Alfredson, showcases a free-form background with appliqued Chrysanthemums.
Pat Alfredson also made this striking quilt for a friend who is getting married that had requested “something in burgundy.”
“Challenge Quilt” pieced by Libby Dudley, is a variation of a free pattern that Kathy Edwards received from a vendor at last year’s Dulles Expo Show. Kathy challenged Libby to make it and she did!!!
Carol Kunkel’s latest quilt is the result of a Fat Quarter Challenge with Aby Dolinger. What great use of colors!
“Fleur de Plume” is just back from being entered in the 2008 Hoffman Challenge. Barbara Dove used the pattern from a MV Barbara Olson workshop to machine applique the quilt.
Blanche Carpenter framed the Cardinal Bird she appliqued from our Emily Martin workshop last spring.
Robbie Burns, owner of The Wild Rose Quilt Shop and retreat in Orting, WA, (http://www.thewildrosequiltshop.com/) contacted Rhonda about a butterfly block she noticed in one of her stocked books Quilt Pink for Hope—featuring two quilts donated by the ‘Little Old Ladies of Mt. Vernon.’ Rhonda granted permission for the butterfly pattern to be adapted for a Shop Hop that 56 area shops participated in using Washington State Wildflower fabric from Northcott. Rhonda donates butterfly blocks ever year to the cause in honor of her Mother, a Breast Cancer Survivor. Bert Garino caught wind of Rhonda’s donations and decided to make a Butterfly Bag just for her. What a lovely gift!
To assist with Aby Dolinger’s new line of patterns, Rhonda pieced and proofed one of her directions into a top. Aby quilted and gave it back to her as a memento from one ‘Honeybun Friend’ to another. Here is the label.

Bert Garino’s “Sweetness” will be on display in her special room just for Granddaughters.
Thanks to Angie for providing the notes.
