Visitors from California

The four photos above are representatives from the Quilts of Honor group visiting from California.  The Marine Corp Museum was closed and Mt. Vernon graciously opened their doors to this group so they could display and present their quilts to America's heros.   This group of women came to the Variety Store to shop and Dianne Tippins invited them to our meeting.

Regular Show & Tell
Lynn Miller - Glads on the Rail Fence - Based on a pattern in Sandy Turner's Big Pink Quilts book

Lynn Miller - Big Bang - Pattern - Turkey Foot - I call this "Big Bang" because it has bright stars and black holes.  It is quilted every 1/4 inch.  The block pattern was used in a quilting magazine to demonstrate methods of machine applique.

Judy Albert - Art Deco - This is a challenge quilt for the Burke QU Art Quilt Bee challenge "Art of the World" - 1 of 6 genres of art.

Mary Ritenour - Crazy Quilt Tree Skirt - front and back

Jill Crispino - Oriental Geometrics and Butteflies

 Pat Alfredson - Leftovers

Pat Alfredson - Strip Challenge

 Beth Smith - Strip Challenge

Ann Marlin - Liberty Belle - Snap Sack Patter

Carol Conahan - Fancy Shoes - Made for my best friend for her birthday

Libby Dudley - Strings and Things - for the Use It Up challenge MVQU 2012-2013.  Was finished in time for the September reveal but was out of town.

Libby Dudley - Lapis Mosaic in Blue - Collected all my scrappy blue strips, mostly narrower than 2 inches and went to town.  Still have plenty!  Reminds me of an ancient stone floor.  The daisy border is from a dear relatives stash.  So happy to find a good home for it.

T Carter - Stained Glass - Turning Twenty 5, Simply Sashed by Tricia Cribbs - I pieced this quilt top for St. John's Lutheran Church, Alexandria, VA.  The women of the Creative Ministry (Donna, Cathy, Norma, Darleen, Barbara and T) quilted it by hand.  We will raffle Stained Glass at our annual craft fair on Saturday, November 9, 2013.  Hope to see you there!  The fabric selections:  I co-mingled a variety of batiks, hand-dyes, mottles and prints.  The black fabric is a Kona solid by Robert Kaufman.  The back is Stonehenge by Northcott.

From left to right - Ro Coller, Judy Albert, Dotty Eisenhour, Kathy Zahaczewsky, Mary Downey, Rosemary O'Brien and Libby Dudley - Georgia Bonesteel class project "Interlock Revisited"
