Strippers in a Blizzard Challenge

Because of last winter’s historical blizzard with record snowfall, we had to cancel our workshop, Strippers Mystery with Gyleen X. Fitzgerald.  These quilters put their fabric choices to good use in the Strippers in a Blizzard Challenge and presented them following Gyleen’s program which was rescheduled for our September meeting.

STRIPPERS IN A BLIZZARD CHALLENGE

Because of the historical blizzard with record snowfall, we had to cancel our exciting workshop, Strippers Mystery with Gyleen X.Fitzgerald. Quilters, do not let your fabulous fabric choices sit around your studio. Instead, put them to good use in the Strippers in a Blizzard Challenge. Make any pattern or design you wish with your 20 1½” strips and amazing border fabric. Just make sure to use all 20 colors and include at least one border. If you did not plan on taking the class, feel free to join us. The supply list is bellow and posted on the MVQU blog. Let’s plan to do a group show and tell at our business meeting in September and show this challenge in the QU 2017 Show!
Supply List

v 1 to 1 1⁄2 yards of absolutely stunning, interesting or fun fabric. Think floral, bold, geometric or novelty with a noticeable scale. Bring along some 1⁄2 yards of coordinating fabrics in case you choose a larger layout to solve the mystery. Extra tone on tones is another possibility.

v (1)11⁄2”x44”strips (full fabric width) from (20) fabrics that support your “background” fabric for a total of (20) strips. If you are using “Fat Quarters”, cut (3) 1 1⁄2” strips from each fabric. Extra strips are wonderful to have in case you need them. Select fabric based on scale, texture and color and try not to over match.

v EZ Angle ruler or EZ Companion Angle ruler. You can use just about any non-square ruler. Different ruler gives a different outcome.

v door Peephole–from hardware store~$3.00.v Basic sewing supplies and Machine. Rotary cutting supplies with 6” x 24”ruler. Neutral thread (gray, tan). Straight pins. v 36” design wall.

v ~2 yard for backing and binding. (Not used in class.)

v Batting.

v Coordinating quilting thread. (Not used in class unless you are much focused.)

Your Sherlock Holmes’ attitude.

2015 Summer Challenge

Summer Challenge

Our Summer Zig Zag Fabric Challenge as begun and is off to a very good start.  Approximately 30 squares were taken with some people doing both the regular challenge and the super challenge.  There is still time to join in the fun!   If you would like to participate in the Summer Challenge, please contact Pat Alfredson or Mary Mazzuchi to make arrangement to receive the 10 inch square of the challenge fabric. Your challenge is to use some or all of this 10” square of fabric in a clearly recognizable form in a finished quilted piece.  The use of embellishments in the Challenge is your choice.

For those of you who think this challenge is a bit too tame, we have the Super Zig Zag Challenge.  You will have the same challenge material as above. Additionally, you draw, sight unseen, 2 crayons from a basket.  Your piece can only contain the challenge material in a recognizable form, and material matching the colors of each of the two crayon colors you picked in solid or print that reads like a solid.  You may add one other material in a neutral color (black, grey, white, cream).  The use of embellishments in either level of the Challenge is your choice.

Completed projects will be revealed at the December luncheon.

Please direct your questions to either Pat Alfredson 703 416 2718 pat.affredson@verizon.net or Mary Mazzuchi 703 960 0569 mazzuchimw@aol.com

Set yourself free and have a wonderful time!
