April 2021 Show & Tell

This month, a total of 57 charity quilts were turned in to Mary Mazzuchi and Ginny Mayes.

These two were from Helen Shaver.

These two are from Carol Conahan.   Carol, Mary Mazzuchi and Martha Dyckes are holding them up.

These four are from Martha Dyckes.

These two are from Lynda McGee.

These two are from Dorie Simmons.

This one is from Tina Wujick.   The second photo shows the quilting detail.

Ginny Mayes finished these quilts but doesn't know who pieced the tops.

The stack shown below brings the total charity quilts collected this time to 57.  WOW!

Ginny Mayes has two quilts to show

"The first is Sea Breeze, my version of Ahoy Sailor by SuzyQuilts. The darker fabric strip is of sharks, and the lighter strip has crabs, seahorses, jellyfish and other sea creatures."

"This is a simple version of Side Braid by Jeni Baker Patterns, using lots of leftover fabrics."

Ginny says "Miss Lily used to help me quilt by playing with my scraps when she was a toddler.  When she was a little older, maybe four or five,  she "helped" me choose colors and arrange blocks.  In middle school or early high school when she needed community service hours, she would come with me to Project Linus Blanket Days.  She would plug in her earplugs and listen to her iPod while sewing Chinese Coins and would help teach the grown-up volunteers how to use a sewing machine or to sew fabric pieces together.  But she never really seemed all that interested in quilting.
Enter a pandemic and Pinterest, and Lily has become a quilter, eyeing my stash and sorting my scraps and using my sewing machines and producing really interesting quilts and pulling down more and more new ideas from Pinterest.  Her first couple were crumb quilts.  Then she made a string-pieced ocean with a paper foundation pieced sailboat.  Next up were two gray quilts with red/orange/yellow scraps in strips.  Then it was time for a bookshelf quilt.  While she works on that -- which already has had a paper foundation pieced cat and an aloe plant -- she is also working on a green crumb quilt.
We should have seen this coming.
Today she was going through a box of early artwork and school papers and notes from her preschool teachers, and she found this art that she had drawn, with the note I wrote on the back to remind us what she had drawn and when:"

These are two of Veronica Abram's quilts as photographed by Tina Wujick for the QU quilt show.
