Presidents’ Message

Last week I had one of those special warm your heart moments. My seven year old granddaughter’s class is practicing public speaking, and each child will have a chance to bring in something special to “Show and Share”. Mackenzie chose the first quilt I made for her and asked me to tell her why I like to quilt so she could tell her classmates. With all the electronic games, toys, etc in the 21st century, I was so touched that this quilt was her most prized possession. Just as many of us talk about our mothers, grandmothers and aunts passing down their love of quilting, I hope each of us will be an inspiration for generations to come. And, please remember how important it is to document the quilt by putting on a label.
November was a very busy month for us at MVQU. I would like to thank everyone who attended the fundraising workshops, donated, stored, bought, organized and participated in this year’s fundraiser, with a special thanks going to Barbara Tucker and Ro Coller. It was the most successful fundraiser we’ve had and the money made will go a long way in our ongoing efforts to host wonderful programs and events.
I hope to see you at our Annual Holiday Luncheon hosted by Gigi Corbin and Barbara Zygiel on December 8th, Hollin Hall Senior Center. This will be a wonderful opportunity for us to gather and kick off the holiday season while getting to know each other better. We’ll have show and tell…be sure to bring in your holiday quilts to share before they get wrapped up. This year we are also helping Fairfax County with their “Adopt a Family” program. Please bring a gift card in any amount from an area retailer (or cash) to help those having difficult times this holiday season.
Happy Holidays everyone and no matter which holiday you are celebrating, may it be filled with family, friends, food, fun and harmony.
Smiles,
Bert

Holiday Luncheon

We'll be celebrating the Holiday Season on December 8th with a potluck luncheon beginning at 12:30 p.m. For those participating in the voluntary gift exchange, please bring a wrapped gift (approx. value $10.00).

New Member Q&A Chocolate Social

January 5, 2010, 12:30-1:30

All new members are cordially invited to attend our first ever New Member Question and Answer Chocolate Social on Tuesday, January 5, 2010, at Hollin Hall Senior Center. We are setting aside time for you to come and ask all those questions you’d love to know the answers to about MVQU and Big QU, but were afraid to ask. What is Big QU? When are our programs? What committees does MVQU have? What’s the Blog? Where and what is the Quilt Show? How do I enter my quilt? Chapter Challenge..what’s that? Where do I find out about all the programs put on by other QU chapters? What are those assignments about on the QU matrix etc, etc. etc. So whether you are new to the guild experience all together or just new to MVQU or feeling overwhelmed by the amount of information passed on during our meetings please plan to join us. MVQU Board Members and some of our Committee Chairs will be on hand, so…you ask, we’ll answer! .

Plus there’ll be chocolate!! Hope to see you there.
