"This quilt honors Ojibwe culture and the beautiful Minnesota Northwoods. Traditional Anishinaabe floral beadwork—circa 1890s—inspired my designs. I added jingles; more commonly used on jingle dresses—a type of Native American powwow dance regalia worn by women and girls. The Creator gave the jingle dance to the Ojibwe people for the purpose of healing. Traditionally, Indigenous people fashioned jingles from chewing tobacco lids, rolled into cones. Contemporary jingles are made from various metals and often come pre-rolled. I selected jingles manufactured by Missouri River. Swiss satin ribbon, French rickrack and seed beads from Japan and Czechoslovakia embellish the quilt."
